Posting Again Today--Lots of key political news

Update

Political Calls
Most political calls now are recorded robo calls. I hang up, regardless of who they support. I don't talk to machines. I never did any "vote-for-Bob" calls in my five successful senate campaigns. I think they turn off a lot of folks. But if you get a call from a live volunteer for a candidate you don't like, say, "Oh, yes, I've been wanting to know more about Pollyanna Progressive's political policies. Hold on while I turn the stove off." Then lay the phone down. You can come back in 15 minutes and hang up the dead line.

Product Endorsements
Readers are used to me bitching about things that don't work. But some things are winners. So I have to say when they are.

Land-O-Lakes Light Butter. We discovered this over a year ago, and have used nothing else since. Half canola oil, it tastes as good as regular butter, but has only half the calories, half the fat, 1/6th the cholesterol, and no trans-fats. It also spreads easily. I use it in all my baking. I recommend it.

Ambrosia Apples. I discovered these about two years ago, and get them whenever I can. I eat about an apple a day, I like them and they are good for my diet. Ambrosias are an accidental cross breed from British Columbia, which was discovered in the 1990s. Best flavor of any apple I've tried, though Pacific Rose apples--rarer--are a close second.

Norelco Electric Shaver. I've used a safety razor and shaving cream all my life. No place to plug one in at, say, Khe Sanh. But when I went back in the hospital my wife bought me one. Had to take it back three times as the heads came off and I couldn't get back on. So I bought a Norelco, with the three round blades.

Ocean Spray Lite Cran- Lemonade and Lite Cran-Mango. Wonderful flavors, low calories, salt and sugar.

Full Disclosure. I get no fees from these companies, who don't even know I'm plugging them. My $10,000 monthly blog stipend from the Evil Koch Brothers is enough to make me very comfortable. ~Bob

General News and Comment

Busted: White House Caught Attempting To Cover Up Something Obama Let Slip About His Past
http://www.westernjournalism.com/white-house-caught-editing-telling-phrase-recent-obama-speech/
Excerpt: A pool reporter, however, recorded the sentence somewhat differently. In addition to the newspapers he apparently left on his Chicago desk, Obama reportedly also left “some unpaid bills,” the reporter noted. (I've always been compulsive about things like bills, but was especially so as a senator. I didn't want the idea that being elected had made me arrogant to circulate. And in my entire life, I've had one bounced check--when the bank put my deposit in the wrong account. I had them write the guy and say it was their error. ~Bob)

It appears @KayHagan treats debates like she treats ISIS intelligence briefings. She skips them.

Liberal Rachel Maddow Trashes Hagan For Skipping Debate

Worth reading: Liberal Activists in Colorado: Illegally Filling Out Ballots to Steal Votes is "Truly Awesome." By Katie Pavlich
Excerpt: Work Progress Director Meredith Hicks, who has dedicated a number of resources to Democrat Mark Udall's U.S. Senate campaign, was caught on video by O'Keefe justifying the illegal use of discarded and blank ballots. "That's not even lying and stealing, if someone throws out the ballot, if you want to fill it out you should," Hicks is shown saying. Greenpeace activist Christen Topping, also a Udall supporter, is caught on film suggesting Veritas investigators visit "ghetto" areas of the city and African-American neighborhoods to find discarded ballots in trash cans to take, fill out and mail-in. She also said filling out discarded ballots is "putting the votes to good use" and is "really truly like...awesome.

Excerpt: All three occurred in “gun free” zones. So when people say that Canada’s restrictive gun laws are a success, I have to scoff. Why? I’ve lived it. I was alive when these atrocities were committed. Many Canadians will tell you the same. It’s for those same reasons that despite politicians pushing legislation, ninety percent of Canadians do not want more restrictive gun laws.

Just Guess What Ferguson Police Found on Missouri Democrat Who Has Sponsored Several ‘Anti-Gun’ Bills… By Jason Howerton
Excerpt: Missouri state Senator Jamilah Nasheed, a Democrat who has sponsored several “anti-gun” bills in her state, was arrested Monday night during a protest outside of the Ferguson Police Department. However, it’s what police officers found on her that is raising eyebrows. Nasheed was carrying a loaded 9mm handgun and extra rounds of ammunition, according to Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson. She also refused to take a breathalyzer test after officers determined she “smelled strongly of intoxicants,” sources told KMOV-TV.

Sen. Coburn's "Wastebook 2014": $10,000 Spent on "Watching Grass Grow" & Other Crazy Things. By Daniel Doherty
Excerpt: It’s 2014 and that means since last year billions more taxpayer dollars have been flushed down the toilet on projects and studies that have zero redeeming value. Every year, Sen. Coburn (R-OK) and his staffers release a report showing the truly astonishing ways bureaucrats and politicians in Washington spend your money. This year was no different, of course. Some highlights:

Senate Democratic Officials Start Lashing Out at White House
Excerpt: The relationship between the White House and Senate Democrats hit a new low Tuesday evening after the administration's press office released a transcript of first lady Michelle Obama's appearance in Iowa on behalf of Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Braley. The problem: The subject line of the e-mail referred to Braley as the "Democratic candidate for governor." ... "The ineptitude of the White House political operation has sunk from annoying to embarrassing," one senior Senate Democratic aide told National Journal. Another Senate official told the Washington Post that Obama's comments were "not devised with any input from Senate leadership."

‘Calibration error’ changes GOP votes to Dem in Illinois county
Excerpt: Early voting in Illinois got off to a rocky start Monday, as votes being cast for Republican candidates were transformed into votes for Democrats. (Interesting how no reports are from the Democrats...complaining their vote went to Republicans. --Laura. It's the Chicago way. ~Bob)

Obama Ties His Boat Anchor to Democrats. From The Patriot Post
CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett highlights a serious problem for Democrats: “President Obama is not on the ballot this December, but to the dismay of some Democrats he’s talking like he is.” Of incumbent Democrats in tight races, Obama said, "These are all folks who vote with me -- they have supported my agenda in Congress." That was days after he declared, "Make no mistake: '[My] policies are on the ballot." Then again, CBS's Scott Pelley noted that Obama has been conspicuously "absent from the campaign trail" because Democrats "want him for the fundraisers but not on the stump." Obama is toxic for Democrats right now, but, as The Weekly Standard's Steve Hayes observed, "He's such a narcissist that even when it would be advantageous for him to not have it be all about him, he has to make it all about him because that's the way that he is." Indeed, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told Democrats that if they don't like Obama's comments there's more where that came from: “The success of many of these Democratic candidates will depend on their own success in motivating voters that strongly supported the president in 2012." Here's a boat anchor necklace -- hope you like it.

No Surprise: Fiscal Policy Report Card on America’s Governors 2014. By Nicole Kaeding and Chris Edwards
Excerpt: The recession of 2007–2009 knocked the wind out of state government budgets, but revenues and spending have grown steadily in recent years. As revenues have risen, some governors have pursued reforms to reduce tax burdens on families and make their states more competitive. Other governors have used rising revenues to expand programs. ... Four governors were awarded an “A” on this report card: Pat McCrory of North Carolina, Sam Brownback of Kansas, Paul LePage of Maine, and Mike Pence of Indiana. Eight governors were awarded an “F”: Mark Dayton of Minnesota, John Kitzhaber of Oregon, Jack Markell of Delaware, Jay Inslee of Washington, Pat Quinn of Illinois, Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, John Hickenlooper of Colorado, and Jerry Brown of California.

VILE: Little Girls Used To Drop F-Bombs in Pro-Feminism Video. by Josh Feldman, Mediaite
Excerpt: You know how elderly white people trying to rap is off-putting? Well, multiply that by 100 and you’ll understand how jarring it is to hear little girls in a new ad repeatedly dropping f-bombs in the name of feminism. Yeah, in this video by FCKH8.com, little girls dressed up as princesses explain how unfair the world is to women with a crapload of words far worse than crapload. (when they are adults, they'll complain that men don't respect them. ~Bob)

Convicted murderer sues Connecticut, saying its ban on porn in prison violates his rights
Excerpt: A convicted murderer sentenced to more than a half-century behind bars is suing the state of Connecticut, saying its ban on pornography in prison violates his constitutional rights. (Put him in a cell with Big Bad Bubba. And a jar of Vaseline laced with Super Glue. ~Bob)

Excerpt: This new poll from the Associated Press is about as dire a poll as Democrats could imagine two weeks before Election Day. Democrats are more trusted than the GOP on just two of nine top issues, the poll showed. The economy remains the top issue for likely voters — 91 percent call it “extremely” or “very” important. And the GOP has increased its advantage as the party more trusted to handle the issue to a margin of 39 percent to 31 percent. (For most Democrats, "The Economy" means welfare, government jobs and government spending. ~Bob)

Public Believes Government Wastes 51 Cents of Every Dollar
Excerpt: American government is growing at leaps and bounds, and with that growth has come massive amounts of wasteful spending on programs that are duplicative, unnecessary, inefficient and outdated. Indeed, the American public is not unaware of this reality; according to a 2014 Gallup poll, Americans believe that the federal government wastes 51 cents of every dollar that it spends. Gallup has been conducting the poll since 1979, and the 2014 result is tied for the highest since the poll began. (Why I vote Republican. with a GOP Congress, we only waste $.48 of every dollar. ~Bob)

Wisconsin Teachers Leaving Unions in Droves
Excerpt: In 2011, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker signed into law a bill known as Act 10. The bill made union membership optional, resulting in a major change in union enrollment in the state. ... What's happened? Union membership has fallen in the teaching sector. The Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) had almost 100,000 teacher members in June 2011; today, that figure has fallen by one-third. And AFT-Wisconsin, a smaller teacher's union, has seen its 16,000-member peak cut in half. Teachers told Fox News why they left: Teacher Amy Rosno said, "As soon as I was given the choice, I left." After attending her first WEAC meeting as a representative, she said, "I realized that it was all political and not about teaching." Many teachers were concerned that their dues were being spent on political causes. Michelle Uetz, a special education teacher, said, "We shouldn't be pigeon-holed into contributing to politics we don't believe in."

The Military vs Marlboro. By Rich Lowery
Excerpt: We are losing a war in Iraq and Syria, the military is shrinking dangerously as global threats are growing, and yet the Pentagon is mustering its forces against tobacco products. The Department of Defense is studying a ban on the sale of cigarettes, cigars, and chewing tobacco on bases and ships. ... So, we can’t figure out how to degrade and destroy the Islamic State, as repeatedly promised by the commander-in-chief, but just maybe we can figure out how to defeat Marlboro and Copenhagen.

Twitter Temporarily Blocks Petition Supporting Houston Pastors. By Kelsey Harkness
Excerpt: In response to subpoenas issued by the city of Houston to pastors who spoke out on same-sex marriage, a faith-based organization launched a petition demanding that the city end its “bullying.” (I have no problem with gay marriage. The real threat to America is straights having kids and NOT getting married. But I'm strongly for freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Any pastor has the right to condemn the behavior of anyone--even of an upright and righteous person like myself! ~Bob)

Worth Reading: Embarrassing Economists. By Walter E. Williams
Excerpt: It turns out that there's a law in economics known as the first fundamental law of demand, to which there are no known real-world exceptions. The law states that the higher the price of something the less people will take of it and vice versa. Another way of stating this very simple law is: There exists a price whereby people can be induced to take more of something, and there exists a price whereby people will take less of something. ... There are economists, most notably Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman, who suggest that the law of demand applies to everything except labor prices (wages) of low-skilled workers.

Ebola and Enterovirus News

Scientists: Ebola Can Spread By Air In Cold Weather
http://www.infowars.com/scientists-ebola-can-spread-by-air-in-cold-weather/
Excerpt: Ebola can spread by air in cold, dry weather common to the U.S. but not West Africa, presenting a “possible, serious threat” to the public, according to two studies by U.S. Army scientists. After successfully exposing monkeys to airborne Ebola, which “caused a rapidly fatal disease in 4-5 days,” scientists with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) concluded Ebola can spread through air but likely hasn’t in Equatorial Africa because the region is too warm, with temperatures rarely dropping below 65°F.

Obama Appointee Who Told WH A Financially Doomed Solar Panels Firm "Looks...OK To Me" IS U.S. Ebola Czar. By Donald Lambro
Excerpt: This was a high-level job for a prominent, experienced take-charge, medical expert with both administrative and executive credentials. But the president chose Ron Klain, a loyal Democratic operative whose background has been in legal work and party politics. He played major role in one of Obama's worst spending scandals: The waste-ridden "green investments" program that poured hundreds of millions of tax dollars into dubious energy companies that went bankrupt. More on this in a moment.

Race Card News

Worth Reading: Race Card: Democrats Go Ugly to Boost Black Turnout. By Guy Benson
Excerpt: Democrats are losing -- and they know it -- so things are getting awfully ugly out there. A New York Times story over the weekend previewed the onslaught of overt political race-baiting that has begun to sweep across the country. Entitled, "Black Vote Seen as Last Hope for Democrats to Hold Senate," the piece describes the party's desperate measures:

Picture of the Day: Dem Party tells blacks ‘vote or watch your children gunned down in the street by police.’ By Howard Portnoy
http://libertyunyielding.com/2014/10/22/picture-day-vote-blacks-will-gunned-street-police/
Excerpt: It’s like a greeting card, except that the message inside is appalling. It is a flyer sent out the Georgia Democratic Party urging blacks to vote in the midterm election. That part is fine. What is not fine is the implication that unless this voting bloc make its voices heard in the polls in two weeks, innocent blacks will be shot to death in the street by police execution-style much in the manner of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.

Excerpt: It appears that the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” chant of the local protestors, outside agitators, and violent rioters that have plagued Ferguson, Missouri, since early August is based on fiction, according to experts who have reviewed Michael Brown’s official autopsy.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch report this morning that the official autopsy of Michael Brown supports the version of events told by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, and flatly contradicts the claims of many of the eyewitnesses.

Two SWAT Raids. Two Officers Dead. One Defendant Is Black, One White. Guess What Happened. By Mother Jones
http://m.motherjones.com/politics/2014/10/texas-no-knock-swat-raid
Actually more than a single difference between the two. Yes, one is black and the other is white, but one did prison time for violent crimes while the other had non-violent offenses. And there's no mention of the registration status of one of the guns. So the story is not just black and white. --George

White Family Beaten After Black Bus Driver Arranges Attack
Excerpt: We’ve heard so much about the shooting of black teens by white cops in Ferguson, Dayton and St. Louis, but have you heard anything about the black city bus driver who helped organize a black mob attack of white family? Didn’t think you had.

Obamacare/Government Healthcare News

71% of Obamacare Signups Traced to Government’s Expansion of Medicaid. By Melissa Quinn
Excerpt: The Obama administration has boasted that the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare, would allow those previously uninsured to purchase quality, affordable health care." The inescapable conclusion is that, when it comes to covering the uninsured, Obamacare so far is an expansion of Medicaid,” Heritage Foundation health policy experts Edmund F. Haislmaier and Drew Gonshorowski write in a research paper scheduled for release today.

Excerpt: A handful of recent reports indicate that capital, overall, is seeking to exit the health care industries burdened by Obamacare’s excise taxes and annual fees. With one outstanding exception — digital health — much of health care is seeing consolidation through mergers and acquisitions (M&A). As for fresh capital, venture funding has shriveled from its 2007 high.

Shaheen: Obamacare is "Absolutely" an Accomplishment For Me. By Daniel Doherty
Excerpt: She said she was (ahem) “absolutely” proud of voting for Obamacare and essentially admitted she voted with the president nearly 100 percent of the time:

Undocumented Democrat News

Ineligible DACA Beneficiaries (Illegal Immigrants) Discovered On NC Voting Rolls
Excerpt: With the North Carolina U.S. Senate race in a dead heat, state election officials say they have discovered 145 names on the voting rolls who are ineligible to vote because they are illegal immigrants who have been granted President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status.
Scott Brown Nails Shaheen on Immigration: 'I Want to Fight for Jobs for New Hampshire' over Jobs for Illegal Aliens. By Matthew Boyle
Excerpt: "I voted to secure the border on two occasions. I voted to send troops to the border. We need to absolutely secure the border. The president through his executive order what he’s proposing to do is actively expand the definition of refugee to somebody who’s here [illegally] to work.”

"You're Greener than Gore" News
Salon Readies Polar Vortex Excuse in Case of Unusually Cold Winter. By P.J. Gladnick
Excerpt: Case in point is the polar vortex which was used by that crowd to explain away the unusually cold temperatures this past winter. And just in case this coming winter turns out to be very cold again, the same polar vortex excuse is being readied over at Salon. Of course, that excuse will only be used if the temperatures are quite low. However, if it turns out to be a mild temperature that will be cited as a result of...global warming. So let us see Salon give us the polar vortex as a result of global warming excuse again which will be inoperative if the winter weather is mild and also explained away as due to global warming:

The Good News About Offshore Oil Rigs. By Jonah Goldberg
Excerpt: Never let it be said that Mother Nature doesn't appreciate irony. A new study led by researchers at Occidental College and the University of California at Santa Barbara has found that the oil platforms dotting the California coast are fantastic for sea life. In a 15-year study, researchers found that the ecosystems that build up around artificial rigs host 1,000 percent more fish and other sea life than natural habitats such as reefs and estuaries.

Religion of Peace News

Excerpt: The Afghan Taliban took control of three districts, one in the province of Wardak which is just south of Kabul, and the other two in the northern province of Kunduz, that were heavily contested during the US troop surge that began in 2010 and ended in 2011. One of the districts was the scene of the Taliban's shoot down of a US helicopter that resulted in the deaths of 31 special operations personnel, including 17 US Navy SEALs.

Turkey's Love Affair with Hamas. By Burak Bekdil
Excerpt: "The Palestinian cause" is a unique charm that brings together Turks from different ideologies. Turkish Islamists view it as an indispensable part of "jihad;" the conservatives feel attached to it because it has a religious connotation; for the leftists it is part of an "anti-imperialist" struggle; the nationalists embrace it just because most Turks embrace it. In the 1970s, when a dozen Turks a day on average were killed in street violence, the "Palestinian cause" was the only issue that otherwise warring fractions of the Turkish left, right and Islamists could agree on. (Well, that and oppressing/killing Armenians and Kurds of course. ~Bob)

Baby Killed When Suspected Terrorist Slams Car into Jerusalem Crowd
Excerpt: A car driven by a suspected Hamas member crashed into a crowd at a light-rail station in Jerusalem Wednesday, killing a three month-old girl and injuring eight others.

'Radicalized' Canadian Runs Down 2 Soldiers: Deadly attack may be linked to ISIS
Excerpt: Canada's first ISIS casualty? A man described by authorities as a "radicalized" convert to Islam and possible recruit to the militant group ran down two soldiers in Quebec on Monday, killing one. Martin Couture-Rouleau, 25, who had apparently waited for hours near a strip mall used by service members, was shot dead by police after a high-speed chase, reports the Toronto Star. Friends and relatives say he developed extreme views after converting around a year ago, but there was no sign that an attack was imminent. (Just another example of the same tragic mental illness, the virus of extreme jihadism got into his fevered brain and of course that means he had to kill the infidel soldiers. There are no extremist Buddhists or Christian Scientists or Mormons or Catholics that in their extremism decide they have to kill others because their religion says to do so. That tiny few who went to the extreme of violence against abortion clinics and doctors were all instantly condemned by all the authorities of their own religion, but this hasn't happened in Islam in general. And that's what is needed, but we haven't seen it and we won't see it, because of the words that are easy to find in the Quran and Sharia, etc. Only a tiny few Muslim leaders have every given a blanket condemnation to the jihadists, even though suicide and the murder of innocents are forbidden in the Quran, and across the world a large fraction of Muslims say that suicide bombing is actually OK "in some circumstances". While such beliefs are widespread there will be no end to the indoctrination and recruiting of fervent young Muslim men for jihad against everything Western, such as the idea of having girls go to school. --Del)

Excerpt: Cultivation of the illegal poppy plant in Afghanistan has reached an “all time high” following a $7.6 billion counternarcotics campaign paid for by the United States, according to government oversight investigators. (Heroin Deals coming soon to a street corner near you--don't get caught in the crossfire. ~Bob)

Excerpt: Stoning adulterers is not “extremist”; it is Islamic law. The caliph Umar, one of Muhammad’s closest companions, even maintained that it was originally in the Qur’an: (Oh, for a clear shot with my M1 Garand. ~Bob)

Excerpt: I watched this last night when Hussam Ayloush of Hamas-linked CAIR tweeted it out, and immediately thought that the whole thing had a stagy feel. And now it is confirmed: this is just another Muslim victimhood hoax — one of many. Hamas-linked CAIR and other Muslims have not hesitated to stoop even to fabricating “hate crimes,” including attacks on mosques. (Also here is you have trouble with the link: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/NYPD-racial-profiling-hoax-video-675432. ~Bob)
