Today's Load of Political News and Comment

Your one-stop-shop for political news and conservative opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. These posts are created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. We owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, too far a stretch, or viciously inflammatory, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, as in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism. ~Bob

General News and Comment

Missile downs Malaysia Airlines plane over Ukraine, killing 298; Kiev blames rebels
Excerpt: U.S. intelligence officials confirmed, but could not identify the origins of, the missile strike that led to the deadliest downing of a civilian passenger plane in recent decades. One Ukrainian government official, however, said the Boeing 777 traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur appeared to have been hit by an advanced Russian-made missile system that recently came into the hands of the pro-Moscow separatists waging a bloody uprising in the east. (There will be a lot of debates and discussions about what the United States can or should do in response to this reckless, deadly decision. But let's begin by asking, if we had the opportunity to reach out and strike 23 Russian separatists involved in the decision to launch this missile, would we do it? I'd like to think so. Fighting a war is not inherently evil, nor is stupidity, but the combination of the two is a fertile ground for evil. These guys need to be taught a lesson, and it's not clear who can teach them. Commercial airliners fly — usually quite highly — over dangerous or not-so-friendly parts of the world all the time. Right now commercial jets are avoiding Eastern Ukraine. Should they avoid Syria, too? Iran? Iraq? Afghanistan? If so, you've just cut off India from Europe. These guys need to pay — and Putin needs to see consequences of his reckless support of these dumb, brutal goons. -- Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt

Obama pledges U.S. help for Malaysian plane probe, talks to Putin

Excerpt: About 100 of the 298 people killed in the Malaysia Airlines crash were heading to Melbourne for a major AIDS conference, conference attendees have been told.
Delegates at a pre-conference in Sydney were told on Friday morning that about 100 medical researchers, health workers and activists were on the plane that went down near the Russia-Ukraine border, including former International AIDS Society president Joep Lange.

I never thought that I'd see the day that the US government would just shrug off a no-fooling war crime committed against our citizens.

Excerpt: In Wilmington, Delaware, after monitoring events over a burger and fries at the Charcoal Pit (temporarily re-named “Situation Room NE”), Obama said the Malaysia Airlines jet going down “may be a terrible tragedy”:

AF-1 wheels up from Delaware. Pres Obama en route to NYC for two Dem fundraisers. Both closed to press coverage.

US Marine Corps commandant openly blasts CIC Obama
Excerpt: On July 15, 2014, speaking at the Brookings Institute think tank in Washington, DC, the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, 4-star Gen. James Amos, openly and publicly criticized Commander-In-Chief Barack Hussein Obama. Reporting for The Fiscal Times, David Francis observes that “It’s highly unusual for a high-ranking soldier, let alone a high-ranking Marine, to publicly question White House and Pentagon policy. Yet that’s exactly what four-star Gen. James Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corps, did yesterday in Washington.” Speaking at the Brookings Institute, Amos criticized the Obama administration for: (After being heavily criticized for appearing to be a seriously PC general, and deferring to everything the Obama Administration has pushed for the military, General Amos has come out swinging with serious and detailed criticisms of the decisions made by Mr. Obama and their tragic consequences. He is set to retire this Fall, which may be part of why he's taken the gloves off completely; and it'll be interesting to see how Obama & Co. react to this previously compliant general. (Maybe his retirement will be moved up a bit- we'll see. Meanwhile, GOOD FOR HIM.) You want speaking "Truth to Power"? Baby, here it is! Oorah! --Del. Always a hard choice for a serving office: speak out and resign, or stay silent and try to do what good you can from the inside. And like everyone, they are biased towards their personal interests, protecting their careers. During Vietnam, LtGen Victor "Brute" Krulak was the only senior officer to criticize Johnson on Vietnam, to Johnson's face, in private. Johnson reportedly escorted him out of the office and denied him a fourth star and becoming CMC, as all expected. ~Bob. Too little too late!....... He had earlier opportunities to show some courage. Too much of a political animal. No points in my book! --GJ. {Other retired USMC officers said "Too little, too late." ~Bob])

Future without Electricity: That’s what radical Greens want — and President Obama’s policies are moving us toward. By Stephen Moore
Excerpt: I wonder how many Americans got the subtle message here: Energy is the master resource. Without it, we return to a Stone Age existence. Life in its absence is nasty, brutish and short.

The Gender Confusion Challenge to Army Recruitment. By William Kilpatrick
Excerpt: Perhaps hoping to put a dent in the appeal of ISIS, some Western newspapers have made much of the expensive stolen watch visible on the wrist of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi during his first public appearance at the Grand Mosque in Mosul. According to several articles, this proved that al-Baghdadi was a hypocrite because such a show of stolen worldly possessions is contrary to the spiritual nature of Islam. As usual, the mainstream media is all wrong about Islam. In FrontPage Magazine, Daniel Greenfield points out that “looting was the core of Muhammad’s conquests.”, says Greenfield, because it is “innately a gang religion.” (A really interesting essay about young men and the drive to find manhood and what that means to different cultures. And how in modern times we have really moved into more complexity about roles in society than probably ever before in human history. --Del)

Agency admits it fired workers who reported wastefulness to Congress: Millions owed in back pay
Excerpt: The federal government’s broadcasting arm for years rejected union charges that officials targeted employees who discussed waste and abuse with congressional investigators, insisting a 2009 “reduction in force” was completely legal. But in a notice recently posted in the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) offices in Florida and Washington, D.C., officials acknowledged that they “failed” to satisfy bargaining obligations in connection with the layoffs at the BBG’s Office of Cuba Broadcasting.

Detroit police chief gives credit to armed citizens for drop in crime
http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140716/METRO01/307160034
Excerpt: The incident was the latest in a string of homeowners opening fire to defend themselves, although after a flurry of such shootings early this year, before Monday there hadnt been a reported incident since May 4 an indication that criminals are thinking twice about breaking into peoples houses, Craig said. Detroit has experienced 37 percent fewer robberies in 2014 than during the same period last year, 22 percent fewer break-ins of businesses and homes, and 30 percent fewer carjackings. Craig attributed the drop to better police work and criminals being reluctant to prey on citizens who may be carrying guns.

Be Very Afraid: Especially For Your Children. By Mychal Massie
Excerpt: On July 1, 2014, I wrote a syndicated Daily Rant (TDR) titled “What If Terrorists Used Infectious Diseases.” I postulated that America is being placed in mortal danger as illegal aliens, to which I specifically add the tens of thousands of illegal alien children, are flooding our borders. ... Not surprisingly, liberals accused me of hate-mongering; they argued that “as a black man, I should understand the discrimination” these illegals are facing and that I should be more empathetic. Even misguided wannabe Conservatives railed against me. Their argument being, that as church-goers, we should want to help these “poor children”.

Fed-backed group drops plan to buy fancy hotel to house illegals
Excerpt: A plan to house hundreds of illegal immigrant children at a multimillion-dollar hotel complex in Texas was scuttled after the prospect of taxpayers footing the bill for luxury lodging proved too much of a public relations obstacle. BCFS, previously known as Baptist Child and Family Services, which has a contract with the Department of Health and Human Services to run camps at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and Fort Sill in Oklahoma, had a deal to buy the Palm Aire Hotel in Weslaco, Texas, for $3.8 million. (Oh, gee, let the vets die from inattention but put the illegals, drug cartels, and OTMs (other than Mexicans) in a multimillion $ spa didn’t go down so well…..Wonder why. Send ‘em to Guantanamo. They have a soccer field and everything plush we’ve already paid for and DOJ does not want to use and they probably speak Spanish. --Barb)

Unaccompanied Immigrant Minors To Be Placed In Florida Foster Homes
Excerpt: “In Brevard County, we will be working with local families that will serve as transitional homes for 12 children. In Broward County, we will provide temporary shelter and care for 24 children in a group-home setting.” Florida Today recently reported federal authorities contacted the private not-for-profit social agency around two months ago to aid the federal government with providing humanitarian services for the migrant children.

Excerpt: The domestic crisis on the Texas border is so bad for President Barack Obama that he tried to divert the media’s attention Wednesday by highlighting various foreign-policy crises. Multiple polls show Americans blame him for the flood of Central American immigrants, which is showing no sign of ending anytime soon. The flood has already derailed his top legislative priority and was declared by a Gallup poll on July 16 as the nation’s No. 1 problem.

Hamas Interior Ministry To Social Media Activists: Always Call The Dead 'Innocent Civilians'; Don't Post Photos Of Rockets Being Fired From Civilian Population Centers
Excerpt: Following are excerpts from the guidelines: "Anyone killed or martyred is to be called a civilian from Gaza or Palestine, before we talk about his status in jihad or his military rank. Don't forget to always add 'innocent civilian' or 'innocent citizen' in your description of those killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza. "Begin [your reports of] news of resistance actions with the phrase 'In response to the cruel Israeli attack,' and conclude with the phrase 'This many people have been martyred since Israel launched its aggression against Gaza.' Be sure to always perpetuate the principle of 'the role of the occupation is attack, and we in Palestine are fulfilling [the role of] the reaction.' ... "Avoid publishing pictures of rockets fired into Israel from [Gaza] city centers. This [would] provide a pretext for attacking residential areas in the Gaza Strip. Do not publish or share photos or video clips showing rocket launching sites or the movement of resistance [forces] in Gaza. "To the administrators of news pages on Facebook: Do not publish close-ups of masked men with heavy weapons, so that your page will not be shut down [by Facebook] on the claim that you are inciting violence.

(this won't stop Muslims, the left or the media from believing everything these murders say. ~Bob)

Obama Hints at Extension for Iran Nuclear Talks
Excerpt: President Obama said Wednesday that there had been “real progress in several areas” in negotiations with Iran over its disputed nuclear program, and he hinted that he might extend the talks beyond the deadline on Sunday in order to reach a final agreement. (On Monday, the word was that the West's negotiations with Iran weren't going well: "The mood of the talks has gone from optimistic weeks ago, as Iran made concessions on items such as the future of its Arak nuclear reactor, to pessimistic in recent days as it becomes clear a giant gap remains on the crucial question of how much capacity Iran will retain to enrich uranium for what it insists is a peaceful nuclear program." (-- Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt

Open Borders Are More of an ISLAM Problem than a Mexican One

Personally, I have never heard the anti-terrorist message conveyed as clearly as she does in this book. (From 2010; imagine how implanted now thanks to regime and its minions. --Barb)

Arab American group urges boycott of White House Iftar dinner

Excerpt: White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the annual dinner was not just a way for the president to observe a "religious tradition" observed by Muslims around the world, but it is also "an opportunity for the president and other senior administration officials to pay tribute to the important role that Muslim Americans play in American communities all across the country." … Earnest added "we certainly respect the differences that some people may have on this. … But we would not want that to overshadow the efforts of the president and other senior administration officials to pay tribute to the contribution that so many American Muslims play in their communities." (Article notes tradition goes back at least to Hillary Clinton in 1996. Some Muslims upset that 5 were surveilled by NSA. Thought USA equal opportunity place; we are all spied on….Barb)
