Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for September 15, 2012

Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

I was on the road Friday night, but found time to pull a few items from the e-mail flow. The granddaughter turns 12 on Sunday. We will likely be busy—bracing ourselves for the teen years, but I’ll leave you a guest post on Sunday. ~Bob.

Why Obama Is Failing the Middle East Meltdown and How to Fix It
Excerpt: The breaking news keeps breaking when it comes to revelations surrounding the attacks and protests aimed at U.S. embassies going on throughout the Islamic world. Protests have spread to at least eight countries. Reports indicate that four people have been arrested relating to the killing of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff there. That offers at least the promise of getting more information about the deliberate attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi.

Sam Bacile or Nakoula Basseley Nakoula? Federal officials consider Nakoula as man behind the film
Excerpt: Instead, the movie, backed by hardcore anti-Islam groups in the United States, is a tome on Islam as fraud. In trailers posted on YouTube in July, viewers saw this: scene after scene of the Prophet Mohammed portrayed as a womanizer, buffoon, ruthless killer and child molester. Islam forbids all depictions of Mohammed, let alone insulting ones. (Well, you should never call a man who the Holy Qur’an said had multiple wives plus sex with slave girls a womanizer. Or a man who ordered Jewish prisoners executed a ruthless killer. Or a man whom the scared Islamic Hadith says had sex with his youngest wife when she was nine a child molester. Just not done. Not like we have a First Amendment that allows you to discuss things that make others uncomfortable or anything. See: The Sex Life of the Prophet

Whoa!… Democrat Kirstin Powers UNLOADS on Obama and Media After Mideast Embassy Attacks (Video)
Excerpt: Powers also slammed the Obama Administration for their weak response to the Mideast disaster and murder of our ambassador in Libya.

For school choice, the best publicity ever. By Ron Matus
Excerpt: Talk about unintended consequences. Has anything ever – ever - generated more positive publicity for school choice than the teachers strike in Chicago? For charter schools especially, the strike is the gift that keeps on giving.

Obama’s Top Fund-Raisers
Excerpt: Fund-raising totals through May for some of the top “bundlers” (those who gather checks from friends and business associates) for President Obama’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee, according to internal financial documents obtained by The New York Times. (The list of their employers, including one from Bain Capital, is interesting. Be more interesting if it included the spouses’ employers, I bet. ~Bob.)

A Day Symbolic of the Obama Presidency
Excerpt: However, just like the trajectory of this Presidency, it went downhill rather fast due to the reality of incompetence and failure that permeates this administration. Apologies in the face of attacks and lack of solemn awareness of a national tragedy plagued the administration yesterday.

The Solyndra Steves: Even for the Obama administration, the Solyndra collusion is remarkable. By Andrew Stiles
Excerpt: The Solyndra loan scandal is a case study in crony capitalism run amok. As e-mails and other documents continue to be released, two cronies in particular stand out: the two Steves.

Romney team sharpens attack on Obama’s foreign policy
Excerpt: Advisers to Mitt Romney on Thursday defended his sharp criticism of President Obama and said that the deadly protests sweeping the Middle East would not have happened if the Republican nominee were president. “There’s a pretty compelling story that if you had a President Romney, you’d be in a different situation,” Richard Williamson, a top Romney foreign policy adviser, said in an interview. “For the first time since Jimmy Carter, we’ve had an American ambassador assassinated.”

Worth Reading: Does America Really Have a President? by Andy Weddington
Excerpt: And, after speaking out, Mr. Romney stood his ground and patiently answered inane questions from a colluding press pool more concerned about his actions than the lack of engagement from Mr. Obama or the escalating violence in Egypt and Libya and elsewhere in the region...Mr. Obama flew to Las Vegas for a fundraiser - greeted by a rambunctious crowd that had no idea what had happened in Egypt and Libya. And his unprepared and inadequate brief account of what happened in the Middle East, to include the murders of four Americans, was sophomoric while moronic supporters chanted "We love you."

Excerpt: A top official at a liberal super PAC with the goal of eradicating tea partiers from Congress is telling activists that it’s more effective to label Republicans as racists than criticize their policies. According to an audio recording obtained by The Daily Caller, Matthew “Mudcat” Arnold, the national campaign manager of the liberal CREDO super PAC, told a gathering of supporters in Aurora, Colo., on Sept. 8 that they’ve realized “policy did not move voters.”

Excerpt: Paul Ryan slammed President Obama's foreign policy agenda on Friday, accusing the president of failing to provide "steady, consistent American leadership" and implying he had waffled on standing up to extremists in the Middle East. Speaking to a conservative audience at the Values Voter Summit in Washington DC, Ryan kept up the Romney campaign strategy of hammering the president on the issue.

Excerpt: No one in this administration seems to fathom what the attacks on our diplomatic missions on the anniversary of 9/11 were all about. Instead in adolescent fashion, the president, our ambassadors, and, most culpably, the secretary of state remain sort of stunned that reset, the Cairo speech, the al Arabiya interview, the euphemisms, the ad nauseam “we are not Bush” apologies — all that and more — did not prevent the assassination of a U.S. ambassador, the sacking of a consulate, and the attempted storming of a U.S. embassy.

Excerpt: If the president does not consider Egypt either an ally or an enemy, it is perhaps best to hold off on the $1 billion-plus aid package until he can determine which, of any category, it belongs in.

Stunner: ‘The Security People Just All Ran Away.’ By David Steinberg http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2012/09/13/stunner-the-security-people-just-all-ran-away/
Excerpt: The guards were involved with the raid. They left their posts on the signal. Say something about this act of war, President Obama — as the alliance with al-Qaeda elements in Libya was your decision, your folly. You extended a hand, foolishly, and they took the whole body. (Nah, we have no indication this was a deliberate attack. –Barb)

Obama Is a Spokesmodel for Tyranny. By Stella Paul
Excerpt: Barack Obama is not a real president, though he does play one on TV. So what is he? It's my contention that the bizarre creature currently residing in the White House is an attractive spokesmodel for our destruction, sponsored by America's mortal foes. The time for politely mincing words is over.

Excerpt: During the demonstration which was held in front of the American Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday, 9/11, a Muslim cleric named Abu Islam tore and burned the Holy Bible in front of thousands of Muslims. His action was met with applause and anti-Christian cheers from the demonstrators. Before leaving the demonstration and getting into his car, he told the crowds "next time I will urinate on it." (Waiting for BO to condemn denigrating a great religion. ~Bob.)

Quote from Jonah Goldberg in The Goldberg File
The First Amendment makes things harder for the government. Seriously, it helps if you say this over and over again. The First Amendment makes things harder for government. It's not a bug it's a feature. In fact, if you go through the Bill of Rights, you'll find that nearly every amendment serves as an impediment to efficient government. Why? Because that's the #$%^ing point! (You can sign up for it at National review Online. ~Bob.)

It’s All Starting to Unravel for Obama
Excerpt: There’s a report that our government knew of the attack 48 hours before it happened. You can’t blame this one on George Bush, but something makes me believe the Democrats and the media will try. The Independent, a UK news source, reports the following. (Only fair. Been unraveling for the country for four years. ~Bob,.)

Tweet from @AceofSpadesHQ
The Ind. also reports lists of Libyans friendly to America were stolen from safe house. Or, as the MSM calls it, "another Romney gaffe."

Obama Skipped his Daily Intel Briefing the Day After the MidEast Attacks
Excerpt: What did you expect, that he would cram doing his job in between a photo op and a Vegas fundraiser? The man has a campaign to run, he doesn’t have time to figure out what’s what and who’s who over there on the Arab street. Cut the man some slack.

Excerpt: Quantitative easing is frequently described as "unconventional monetary policy," but the open-ended nature of this bond-buying commitment is unique even by the standards of previous actions. It brings the Federal Reserve closer to a policy idea that's become known as NGDP (Nominal Growth Domestic Product) targeting, in which the Fed basically says it will continue buying bonds until the economy reaches a certain target level of inflation and growth.

Game Changer Fed Decision
Excerpt: Here are the key paragraphs from today's Fed announcement ... To support a stronger economic recovery and to help ensure that inflation, over time, is at the rate most consistent with its dual mandate, the Committee agreed today to increase policy accommodation by purchasing additional agency mortgage-backed securities at a pace of $40 billion per month. (Apparently Obama owns the Fed or at least he owns Bernanke. On the other hand, maybe things are much, much worse than government has told us. This is certainly reads like a dying breath desperate act. The question is, is it America or the Obama presidency that is dying? --MM)
While you were watching EgyptChinese Ships Enter Japanese-Controlled Waters to Protest Sale of Islands
Excerpt: Six Chinese maritime patrol vessels entered Japanese-controlled waters around a group of disputed islands on Friday in the first such move by China since the Japanese government announced that it had bought the islands this week, the Japanese Coast Guard said.

Where To Go When Your Local Emergency Room Goes Bankrupt?"
Excerpt: During the past ten years 84 California hospitals have declared bankruptcy and closed down their Emergency Rooms forever. Financially crippled by legislative and judicial mandates to treat illegal aliens have bankrupted hospitals! In 2010, in Los Angeles County alone, over 2 million illegal aliens recorded visits to county emergency rooms for both routine and emergency care. Per official figures, the cost is $1,000 dollars for every taxpayer in Los Angeles County.

New York Times Proves Clint Eastwood Correct -- Obama Is Lousy CEO
Excerpt: A Sunday New York Times front page story — New York Times! — might have killed President Obama’s re-election hopes. The story is called “The Competitor in Chief — Obama Plays To Win, In Politics and Everything Else.” It is devastating.

Yikes: Three U.S. Universities Receive Bomb Threats, One from "Al Qaeda." By Kate Hicks http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katehicks/2012/09/14/yikes_universities_receive_bomb_threats_one_from_al_qaida
Excerpt: More to file under "What the Heck is Happening in the World:" there are now three major US universities that have received bombing threats today, and apparently they were credible enough to warrant major action. Both University of Texas in Austin and North Dakota State University were evacuated, with the former allegedly receiving threats from someone claiming connection to al Qaida. The two events, however, appear unrelated.
