Political Digest for August 28, 2012

The Old Jarhead Blog: Bringing you news and information the MSM is too busy covering American Idol, celebrity affairs and sensational missing person cases to cover. Please forward to friends who need to be informed.

Information on my books

Excerpt: This past week, the Obama administration informed Congress that it had approved the sale of 125 M1A1 Abrams Tanks to the government of Egypt. The question of just who is running the government of Egypt was apparently insignificant to the decision-makers. And this goes to the heart of the problem, as this administration continually makes irrational and dangerous foreign policy decisions that may not only have a dramatic affect on the Mideast and surrounding areas, but that will likely impact U.S. interests across the globe. (In my view, selling tanks to the MB is treason to civilization. But Obama privately probably calls them "Jew Killers. If this doesn't clarify his attitude towards Israel for American Jews and others who support the only Democracy in the Middle East, nothing will. ~Bob.)

The Bankrupt Leading the Bankrupt. By John Ransom
Excerpt: If the world without a strong American economy struggles, so too does an America without a strong California economy. The Golden State, which once represented the promise of America, is mired in swampland of broken promises, graft, political stupidity and liberal fantasy. And if California represents the very best government that liberals can give us- and it likely does- then this country had better take a deep breath and step away from progressive math.

Salafi Terrorists: Jihad Against 'Criminal Jews' is a Duty
Excerpt: A Salafi terror organization ideologically affiliated with Al-Qaeda has claimed responsibility for firing three Kassam rockets at the city of Sderot on Sunday morning. (Supported, of course, by all right-thinking, Transnational Progressives. ~Bob.)

Los Angeles Times calls for restrictions on freedom of speech of counter-jihadists
Excerpt: Now, the purpose of these tweets and emails is unmistakable: Nathan Lean was signaling to me that he thought he knew my whereabouts (and that of my family), despite my attempts to conceal them. And why would he want me to think that he knew where I was? So that I would be frightened into silence, afraid that one of his many violence-inclined allies might do me in if I continued to speak out for freedom and human rights. I therefore duly forwarded all these communications to the FBI, and they've informed me that they're keeping on eye on Nathan Lean.

Christian family converted to Islam, beaten, tried in Tashkent
Excerpt: Orthodox Christian Natalya Pleshakova who is disabled from childhood and her mother have been severely beaten up and tried in Tashkent. (I use items like this from foreign media, that I cannot verify. But readers should know that some of the foreign media is as biased and unreliable as the mainstream media in the US. Let the reader beware. ~Bob.)

Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood cleric: "The day will come when we will be masters of the world"
Excerpt: This appears to have originally aired earlier, as Raymond reported on it here at Jihad Watch on July 28. In any case, it directly contradicts the widely publicized recent study that claims that Islamic supremacists are not seeking world domination.

Excerpt: In this recent column, political analyst Sean Trende explains why the current state of the economy is likely to lead to a very close election in November. Various pundits have suggested that Romney should be doing much better in the polls, given the weak economy. Romney is indeed a far from inspiring candidate. But, as Trende explains, his performance in the polls is roughly in line with standard economic models of presidential elections

New Film “The Unvetted” Exposes Obama’s Communist Cover-up.
Excerpt: A new film from America’s Survival, Inc. documents what journalist Cliff Kincaid calls “one of the most extraordinary cover-ups in American history –how a presidential candidate with a covert connection to a major Communist Party operative was protected by the major liberal and conservative media.” Kincaid is the president of America’s Survival, Inc. (ASI) and recently held a WashingtonD.C. conference on “The Vetting” of Barack Obama. The 30 minute film “The Unvetted” is available for viewing for free at the ASI YouTube channel…..

State Department Website Morphs into the World According to Obama: The State Department is continuing to edit its website into a more Obama-centric story of the world. By Helle Dale
Excerpt: As reported by The Heritage Foundation’s Jim Roberts, the State Department three months ago changed the format of one of its better products, the country-by-country Background Notes to a format allegedly more in tune with the times. …With little or no fanfare (one might say with little or no warning), they were replaced in May with so-called Fact Sheets focused exclusively on current U.S. policy—i.e., Obama Administration policy….While the new format does indeed describe the current state of bilateral relations between the U.S. and the countries of the world, it does not reflect past relations and in no way contains the depth of information available in the well-written and detailed Background Notes of years past, now available only in archived form

Excerpt: Republicans are winning the political debate on entitlement reform and Medicare, issues long dominated by Democrats, in the wake of Mitt Romney’s selection of running mate Paul Ryan. A poll released last week shows seniors nationwide back the GOP proposals on Medicare overall, with tight battles in some key swing states.
Excerpt: Although the ad got a lot of playtime on MSNBC Friday, a recent so-called “Republican women for Obama” video advertisement has turned out to be a disingenuous campaign ploy. (I’m shocked. Only two? ~Bob.)

Worth Reading: Irritating Things. By John Goodman
Excerpt: It’s impossible to have a rational discussion about health policy when one side of the argument is irretrievably deceitful. Here are some things I find irritating, to say the least: A White House that claims the way to control health care costs is to follow “evidence-based” guidelines, doing only procedures that are cost effective. A White House that then uses taxpayer dollars to promote procedures that are not evidence-based or cost effective for blatantly political reasons. A sycophantic press corps and fellow-traveling health policy bloggers who either remain silent or actually apologize for this hypocrisy.

RNC protestor arrested with machete strapped to his leg
When machetes are outlawed, only liberals will have machetes. ~Bob. Excerpt: "When deputies caught up to Wilson, he advised he did not have to stop and that he was allowed to carry whatever he wanted," HCSO spokesperson Larry McKinnon said. When deputies attempted to physically stop him, Wilson allegedly began resisting arrest and was physically restrained.

Pakistani Prime Minister Wins Time in Conflict With Court. By Salman Masood
Excerpt: In a rare conciliatory move toward the civilian-led government, Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Monday delayed pressing contempt charges against Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf that could lead to his dismissal from office.

Worth Reading: A Nation Adrift From the Rule of Law. We are losing sight of the basic principles that made us great in the 20th century. By David Skeel, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School
Excerpt: No one doubts that the coming election will be the most important referendum on the size and nature of government in a generation. But another issue is nearly as important and has gotten far less attention: our crumbling commitment to the rule of law. The notion that we are governed by rules that are transparent and enacted through the legislative process—not by the whims of our leaders—is at the heart of that commitment. (If you hit a pay wall, Google the title. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: Because what the Washington Post and their brothers and sisters in the dinosaur media really want when they make calls for "bipartisanship" and "a softer tone" is not for Democrats to move from the left to the center, but for Republicans, and Republicans only, to move toward the left. They want all Republicans to be "moderates" and vote for the Democrat's agenda.

Camden, New Jersey: Deadliest City in America Plans to Disband its Entire Police Force and Fire 270 Cops to Deal with Budget Crunch. Michael Zennie
Excerpt: There have been a staggering 41 homicides in Camden, New Jersey, already this year but the Camden Police Department will be replaced with a force run by the county, which supporters say will cost significantly less and allow more officers on the streets. Some citizens worry, though that the new officers, many of them from the county police force, won't be prepared for the tough, violent work of patrolling a dense urban city. (Camden, where I enlisted in the Marines in 1964, is right next to my hometown of Collingswood, NJ. But I think Collingswood has been somewhat protected by Rt. 130, a busy highway that runs in between. ~Bob. They are laying off every policeman, including the chief. As part of the same action they are allowing qualified officers to retire with a full package. They will rehire 49% (app 120) of the force (according to my source) based on performance. Those officers with a "high" absentee rate, or other behavioral issues will not be rehired. They have 400 applications in hand from other police forces [NYC, Phila]. -- BH)

Neil Armstrong: How to Step Away. By James Lileks
Excerpt: But when he looked up at night he saw something in the sky that had shone down on humanity from cave-age to yesterday, and he knew his relationship with Luna would always be unique. No one else would ever be first. None of which matters when you’re on your hands and knees looking for your fingertip.

Can we match the will and creativity that put Neil Armstrong on the Moon? By Benedict Brogan
Excerpt: Looking at it now, when the modernity of 1969 now seems so ancient, it is near unbelievable that a way was found more than 40 years ago, in John F Kennedy's words in 1961, 'of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely back to earth'. In his rare pronouncements since then Armstrong returned again and again to the theme of man's ability to do impossible things. Whatever the geopolitical motivations behind it, that moment of breathtaking optimism the world shared one night in July 1969 came about because politicians willed it, great minds bent to the task, and men of exceptional courage rose to the challenge.

Obama Remembers Neil Armstrong...with a big picture of himself.
Excerpt: I didn’t think to post a picture of myself to remember Neil Armstrong. Never got into my mind that this was a good way to remember his greatness. But then, I’m not president mompants:

Taliban Behead 17 Caught Dancing to Music at Party. By Ben Farmer
Didn’t get the “Islam is a Religion of Peace” memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: Hours after the massacre, an Afghan army checkpoint was stormed elsewhere in the province and 10 soldiers killed. A spokesman for the governor said the post in Washer district was believed to have been betrayed by insiders and five soldiers who were missing after the attack were being investigated. Meanwhile two American soldiers were shot dead by an Afghan comrade after an argument during a joint patrol.

Starving Amidst Plenty. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Socialist or capitalist monopolies lead to rationing societies where production is restrained and innovation is discouraged. The difference between the two is that a capitalist monopoly can be overcome. A socialist monopoly however is insurmountable because it carries with it the full weight of the authorities and the ideology that is inculcated into every man, woman and child in the country.

Mia Love, Utah's Mormon Mayor, Increases GOP's Minority Appeal. By Priyanka Boghani
Excerpt: Mia Love will be speaking at the Republican National Convention. The Mormon mayor of Saratoga Springs is currently running against Democratic Congressman Jim Matheson for Utah's 4th Congressional District, according to ABC News. If elected in November, Love, born in Brooklyn to Haitian-American parents, would become the first black female Republican in Congress, noted NPR.

VIDEO: Allen West: Obama Has Fed America A "Crap Sandwich"
Excerpt: “Let’s be very honest and let’s put this in military vernacular, if you’re feeding a person a crap sandwich with a smile, it’s still a crap sandwich,” West said over the weekend. (I love this man. --Kate.)

Republicans Can't Duck Abortion Issue. By Star Parker
Excerpt: Word is that the president of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, has a prime speaking slot at the Democratic Convention. Democrats are proud to associate publicly with the largest abortion provider in the nation. There is no shame that a few weeks ago a young black woman bled to death, lying neglected for five hours in a Planned Parenthood clinic in Chicago, after a botched abortion.

Black President quiet on death of Black woman at Planned Parenthood, uses Planned Parenthood ad to get votes!
Excerpt: Obama’s Planned Parenthood ad comes days after a 24-year-old African-American was left to bleed to death following her abortion at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Chicago.

Marco Rubio Defends GOP Pro-Life Platform from Media Attacks. By Steven Ertelt
Excerpt: “This is not an issue about denying anyone rights,” said Rubio. “This is an issue about protecting the rights of a human being to live — irrespective of what stage in development they may be. “I think what’s important to understand, yes, Mitt Romney is pro-life and the Republican Party, although it has diversity on this issue, is the home of the pro-life movement in American politics.”

Marco Rubio Stands Tall at GOP Convention.
Excerpt: Florida’s Tea Party-backed Senator Marco Rubio was one of our top picks to be Mitt Romney’s running mate. He’s a conservative “boat rocker” who bucked the Republican establishment and defeated Florida’s liberal Governor, then-Republican Charlie Crist – and he’s also a gentleman.

The Ugly Face of Swedish Media: '18-year-old Rudolf was beaten unconscious and set on fire.' By Baron Bodissey
Excerpt: I just recently learned that there now will be a demonstration for the Somalis, largely by Swedes. A manifestation against racism. But, say — who will demonstrate for Rudolf?

VIDEO: Anita Moncrief, ACORN Whistleblower. By Ginni Thomas
Excerpt: Anita Moncrief isn’t your ordinary Republican voter. During the 2008 election, Moncrief supported Hillary Clinton and then Barack Obama. But now, she speaks to tea party groups, calls President Obama a “socialist” and has come to call herself a “non-liberal.

Pitchfork Protest Farmer Confronts Government Corruption and Retribution. By Mark J. Fitzgibbons
Excerpt: American Thinker was the first to report about how Fauquier County, Virginia attempted to fine farmer Martha Boneta for hosting a birthday party for eight 10-year-old girls without a special events permit. She was also fined for selling her farm produce without a special administrative permit, even though she had a business license that allowed those sales. As also reported here, Martha the farmer lost her appeal before the county's Board of Zoning Appeals.

Happy Capital Day?
Excerpt: Any good economist will tell you that as complementary factors of production, labor and capital are not only indispensable but hugely dependent upon each other as well. Capital without labor means machines with no operators, or financial resources without the manpower to invest in. Labor without capital looks like Haiti or North Korea: plenty of people working but doing it with sticks instead of bulldozers, or starting a small enterprise with pocket change instead of a bank loan.

The New Breed of Republican: Artur Davis. By Bruce Bialosky
Excerpt: One would instinctively conclude that it is a tremendous act of courage to have been a leading Black supporter of President Obama – in fact, the first Congressman outside of Illinois to endorse Obama for president – and then change parties to become a Republican. But if you ask Artur Davis, he’d tell you that it was completely natural and the right thing to do.
